PARTY TIME

Our little girl’s first birthday…

This has been the topic of discussion between my husband and I for the past few weeks...
“to party" or “not to party"...
but of course, I want “to party"!

However, my husband feels that we shouldn’t make such a big fuss about the first birthday. So, we had to compromise – Cake & Tea at our house, with lots of balloons, party packs and LOTS of snacks!

I was super stoked about the "Cake & Tea" event, which turned into a mini party after all, and Lila had a ball of a time! She literally played non-stop for 7 hours! My husband kept reminding me that it wasn't my party, but I had to laugh at this, because who wouldn’t find blowing-up balloons one massive exciting event – not to mention getting all dressed up?

We celebrated Lila’s 1st birthday with flair and had an awesome time!

I can’t wait for the next one!

In love...

I took some photographs of Sarel while he was having a cigarette. He was so drawn into the book he was paging through; he didn’t even take notice of me. It was really cool and gave me a chance to take the time to examine him through my 300mm lens.

Looking at the photographs now, just reminds me again how much I love everything about him. The profile of his face, the character of his hands and feet, the texture of his skin, the light on his hair. I love the way his feet leave a perfect “Hang Ten” footprint in sand. I love that he’s wearing a wedding band and everything that it represents – us, together for life!!! I love the way he knows what to wear – Rock n Roller with a soft side. I love the fact that he thought my design was good enough to be permanently imprinted in ink on his body. I love his fun loving personality... his loyalty... his love... Sigh, it feels awesome to love and be loved in return…

Carli's first birthday

Carli invited us to her first birthday party on Saturday morning. It was great spending some time with our friends and their little ones. And it made me wonder if we will ever have enough energy to have our own children. What if we get a little hyper-active monster? I guess monster is not the right word to use, but you know what I mean... Looking at these photographs, I feel relieved because I know that Sarel will be the best dad in the world!

Happy birthday!

Sarel turned 31 yesterday! We didn’t do much because his grandmother, Ouma Lettie, was recently diagnosed with acute leukemia and our spirits are a bit down It doesn’t seem right to celebrate anything when someone you truly love and who has played a tremendous role in your life is suddenly busy dying. I don’t think anyone can comprehend the sadness he feels in his heart right now. It breaks my heart I wish I could do something to make his heart ache a bit better Cancer is such a terrible disease! Yesterday was the first day in two weeks we were allowed to hug and kiss her again. When we left the hospital I gave her a big, long hug and kissed her on her cheek. Her skin felt extremely soft, like a baby’s skin, and I wondered how many times I have left to share a moment like this with her. Life can be so hectic sometimes, so unfair So extremely ruthless!
